<description>A photographer of a peculiar artistic eye, Melina Resende, brings a polemic theme into the scene, the prostitution. The photographic style is realistic, between documentation and poetic expressions in which one can easily notice beauty and subtle excerpts of emotions. Visually, the work is remarkable due its intense photographic style, its dramatic photographic light, colors and mainly its dense approaching without the need of shocking. Resende’s work progressively finds out the delicate relations between seduction and clientele in this universe, the need of surviving, darkened body shapes and curves, scattered vestiges of complex lives realities as whole.

From the very beginning entitled as “Love Goddesses”, the photographic essay was first presented as a conclusion work for the Brazilian school of photography, SENAC. The chosen ambient was a prostitution house in São Paulo and the visiting has extended itself through all the year, confidence and intimacy came with time, so did new understandings and deeper views. The theme prostitution and the idea of photography as an investigations tool held lot concepts of earlier works from Eugene Atget, Brassaï, E.J Bellocq, Miguel Rio Branco, Mary Ellen Mark, Olivia Gay and Maya Goded. The different expression forms and styles from each of those photographers, as much as the different subject approaching way from each of them, deeply contributed to the essay’s own guide lines.
